Neighborhood events and curb appeal seem to be the key points in hosting a successful open house. So why are there so many that seem to lack both? Open houses seem to abound in my neighborhood. Or at least I see a lot of signs advertising their date and time, but rarely any cars at the property on the scheduled date.
According to NAR’s 2008 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 48 percent of all buyers used open houses as a source in their home search process. A recent article from RISMedia offered some advice to agents in giving new life to lackluster open houses. “Rethinking the Open House” by George Mantor offers some energizing ideas when holding open houses.
Mantor recommends becoming an “expert in every floorplan, square footage, builder features and amenities.” By becoming an expert in the local community, you can help yourself stand out from the crowd as well as become a familiar marketing presence.

Of course, there is always REALTOR.org’s “Field Guide to Open Houses” that has a wealth of information for the beginner to experienced agent on holding open houses.
