Consumers want to either buy green or green their homes, according to Melanie McLane, real estate instructor and associate broker. The top three trends that consumers are interested in are energy efficiency, sustainability and natural products, she said. According to an National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) survey, McLane said that 80 percent of buyers rated energy efficiency very or somewhat important to them. “Builders are touting green homes and consumers are interested in rating systems for energy efficiency,” said McLane. “What’s important to our buyers should be important to us.” She highly recommends the NAR Green Designation Core course because it provides REALTORS® with green building principles so they can help consumers in purchasing, retrofitting and operating green properties.
Melanie McLane will be teaching at Triple Play on December 7 and 9. To register go to realtorstripleplay.com.
