“Realtors® need to tell sellers to think like a buyer when staging the exterior of a home,” said Barb Schwarz, president and CEO of StagedHomes.com. Schwarz recommends taking sellers across the street so they can take a good look at their home.

“All of a sudden it hits the seller right in the face and they see for themselves what needs to be done. It’s really a great way to get the seller on board to stage the outside of the property,” she said.

Cleaning and painting the outdoors is a must but the new trend to make the outside of a house pop is shutters.  Schwarz said on darker homes use light-colored shutters and on light homes use dark-colored shutters. “They give a really warm feeling to a home,” she added.

We used to say that “Time causes blindness” to sellers. I always recommend they visit Open Houses for competing listings, and look at the virtual tours of competing listings.
