Realtors® plan to take a stand for home ownership at the Realtors® Rally to Protect the American Dream from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17 in Upper Senate Park at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Today is the last day Realtors® can register to take advantage of NAR-sponsored bus and train transportation.

The rally on Capitol Hill will show elected officials that no one cares more about revitalizing the real estate market than Realtors®. Realtors® who attend the Rally can ride for free on a NAR-sponsored bus or catch a NAR-sponsored train car at 6:55 a.m. in Philadelphia.

“I think Realtors® should make it their business to be at the Realtor® Rally. We’re all extremely busy in our businesses but you really can’t afford not to be there,” said PAR President Frank Jacovini. “It’s important for our industry to let Congress know housing is under attack. Congress is considering legislation that could seriously hurt the American dream of home ownership. Every Realtor® should find a way to join the rally to let their legislators know that home ownership is important to the country’s economic recovery. Home ownership does matter.”

Greater Scranton Association President Peter Lamandre echoes Jacovini’s enthusiasm for the Rally.

“I think it’s important that our voice is heard. Housing is a key component in the economy,” Lamandre said. “Realtors® speak as the voice of real estate. It’s important that our legislators know that we’re keeping an eye on legislation, regulations and what Washington is doing and how it will affect home ownership and housing in general.  If not Realtors®, then who will?

“Ten thousand Realtors® on the Capitol lawn will definitely make a statement,” he added.

“We’re trying to get the message out to everyone – including Congress – that home ownership matters. Home ownership matters to families; it impacts our communities and improves our quality of life,” said Bette McTamney, PAR president elect. “It makes me proud to be a Realtor® and I want to be part of this historic Realtor® Rally. As Realtors®, this is what we do for a living and we should make every effort to be there. I think it’s going to be a tremendous event and Realtors® will make an impressive statement.”

Realtor® Kate Steffy with Century 21 Park Road in Wyomissing said, “I’m really looking forward to joining with Realtors® from across America. It’s important that we stand up for the American dream and speak to Congress about this issue. When we join together with NAR, we can make a difference.”

Mt. Bethel Realtor® Tiffany Hayward, with Teel Realty, agrees. “I think if Realtors® speak in a united voice, showing a strong front, we’ll make a difference. There’s strength in numbers. My immigrant grandparents have instilled in me that owning a home is part of the American dream. It’s tough for so many people to purchase a home today and it’s important for us to be at the Capitol and show how important home ownership is to so many families.”

Please join other Realtors® and stand together to be counted in this vital demonstration of support for the American Dream. NAR is organizing buses and a train for Realtors® to attend the Rally. Register today to be part of this historic event.
